Donald Duck Bay: Island 8
Named after a rock on the north side of the bay that is said to resemble the cartoon Duck, and is probably the most photographed attraction in the Similan Islands. The bay itself is a popular stopping point for day boat divers from Khao Lak, fishing boats and live on board boats. This is causing some surprising problems: Huge overly large octopus, crabs and cuttlefish can be seen eating waste food thrown from the moored boats. So please try not to join in this McDonald's throw away bonanza, because in the long term we cannot afford the medical fees for these morbidly obese fish. The most interesting section of the dive are the boulders running out of the bay on the north side, that form swim-throughs and house emperor shrimps, red round crabs, decorator crabs, triton shells and cone shells. Also a great place to meet green Ridly's turtles.
Depth. 5/18m. Visibility. 5/20m. Current. Easy. Level 1. Good for all.
Hideaway: Island 5
Barracuda Point as it is sometimes known is one of the most complete Similan dive sites. Here you will find the isolated space that many divers crave among the boulders. North Point: Island 9
North Point has large granite boulder pinnacles situated off its north coast. The boulders are lying at thirty five metres and rise to ten and have swim-throughs and gullies between the rocks. As you swim down to deeper water you have a great chance of meeting harmless leopard sharks at the bottom. In the shallows closer to the island, there are large flat plains of cauliflower leaf corals and stubbly finger corals. Cover as much area as you can and you're bound to see black and white banded sea snakes and green turtles along with the more common reef fish.
